Wine Labels Copywriters???
My husband and I get such a great laugh when we buy a bottle of wine. Why such fluffy, flowing, effusive, and adjective overdose on the lable? Example:
“The branches of an Old Zinfandel vine…Their arms twist and turn under nature’s direction like the lives of the people who enjoy Old Vine Zin” And then it goes on, “has a concentrated nose of spice, cherry, blackberry and plum. It offers a jammy mouthfeel with subtle nuances of oak…..” Yadda, yadda, yadda…..
What’s with those wine lable copywriters anyway? Do they intentionally write for laughs?
Often, yes.
A label is the wineries marketing device — there are thousands of wines out there, My local supermarket stocks about 1000 different (400 red & 400 white & fortified & sparkling), so anything that attracts the eyes as the consumer scans the shelves is important.
And if you can get the consumer to pick up the bottle to read thelabel you are very close to a sale.
