Why don’t bottles of wine display a best before date.?

Surely,the wine producers must know when their wines are at their best and for how long, therefor they should be able to state a best before date

Cheap wine, is best consumed within 12 – 18 months of purchase. This is because the wine has been produced and selected for immediate consumption. They use chemicals to remove fines (organic solids) from the wine. More expensive and Vintage wine has been selected from the best grapes, but not the best for immediate consumption. The Quality control process dictates when the producer puts the product to market. These wines are manufactured using traditional processes and implement less chemicals. They require an extended ‘lay up’ time to allow settlement of the organic matter.
If you get a top of the range Red Wine, you will find that the bottle still contains the organic sludge in the bottom of the bottle. This is because settlement takes place within the bottle over many years of maturing. This type of wine requires special attention to maintain its quality up to and inclusive of the pouring process.
As chemicals are used to artificially age cheap wine, they don’t keep as well but expensive wines can keep for tens of years or more.
